New Toy

The hubs bought me a present that I neither needed nor really deserved. It was just an oh-so-giant WANT/wouldn't this be a convenient thing to have/sometimes I get lost and need GPS?

I am pretty darn excited about the oh-so-great camera, but then I realized I can't take a picture of the phone WITH the phone... insert grainy Photo Booth picture.

So, splurge of the year. I really feel spoiled and not like it is quite justified... mostly because I spend most of my time at home and I have internet at home, do I really need it on the go, too? I feel very first-world, non-minimalist. (Not like I was kidding myself before - I love my modern appliances and my laptop and my car, but there is something about a smartphone that is so non-essential, for ME.) But I needed a new phone, regardless. My old phone kept having what I lovingly termed "pregnancy moments" - I would tell it to do something and it was like it couldn't remember what I had pressed.

I'm so excited about the camera/video camera. There are so many little moments I would love to capture (and sometimes tried to with my old phone and its terrible camera) but I don't always want to pull out my giant camera. I LOVE my giant camera, don't get me wrong, but "convenient" is not exactly a word I would use to describe it. I will bring it if we go someplace like the zoo, but it's hard to camera-wear AND baby-wear, and I'm always so worried about bumping it around. Hopefully this will allow me to capture more of the very ordinary moments I want to remember.

so my big camera is probably way more convenient than this thing... I guess it's all relative, isn't it?

Brian downloaded some apps he thought I might appreciate. Facebook, Dave Ramsey, Pandora, Hy-Vee... My Fitness Pal!? Hahaha. I can pretend to be offended but I did use it a lot on the old iTouch. I'm not actively using it now (They've been sending me "Colleen, we miss you!" emails.)

psst: I added a "Follow Me on Pinterest!" link on the right toolbar up towards the top -----> Who would have thought this girl would be able to click "Add HTML/JavaScript" on a Blogger gadget and actually know what to do? With help from Google. :)

  1. I am obsessed and sort of cult-y about iProducts- I get weirdly excited whenever someone else gets one. So, needless to say, my reaction to this post is "SQUEEEAL!!!" You will love it. LOVE it. I'm on my second iPhone (the 4S) and a couple of months shy of my third and I have no plans on ever going back. I need help. Pray for me. ;) Anyway, unsolicited apps I think you need:

    -Instagram
-Mint.com (I don't know if you'll like it, but it's a budgeting app and I'm pretty into it lately)
-Out of Milk (handy grocery list app that my DH has on his phone too- we can sync and send each other grocery lists. So cool)
    -Twitter if you're on Twitter.

There's NFP charting apps, eReader apps... it just gets crazy. I'm going to quit while I'm ahead. Congrats on your super awesome new phone!!

    1. Thanks for the app suggestions!!!! I will TOTALLY have to get the grocery one for sure... I was actually looking for one yesterday but wasn't really sure which ones were the best, there are so many to choose from! And since Brian works at a grocery store and can get stuff EVERY day... I will never have an excuse to be out of milk again :P

We are mostly an Apple family now, I guess! We both have Macbooks and iPhones and we have Apple TV... we just have one PC left but it might be on its way out. I will be in the market for a new laptop within a year or two, and while I don't love that Macs cost so much more... it is definitely SO worth it. I love my laptop!

    2. By the way, it is probably weird/creepy-ish that now that I figured out how to turn the email notifications on for my comments, I respond like immediately... I am not just stalking my blog to see who leaves comments, I promise. haha. The email just pops up right away! Maybe I spend too much time on the computer...

    3. Ha! I have a Wordpress app for my blog so it alerts me when I get comments. So, I probably also seem like a super-quick responder. I try to make myself wait a little bit so I don't seem crazy, but that doesn't always happen. :P (So you should see if they have a Blogger app is what I'm saying. :D)

I'll have to chat with you about your Macbook in the next few months. I have a Dell that is nearing its end, and since I have an iPhone and an iPad, it just seems logical to get a Macbook since all of my stuff can sync. The cost is a little intimidating though.

Also- have you noticed that if you text another iOS user the bubbles are blue instead of green? It's probably old news but it still really tickles me.

    4. There is indeed a Blogger app that is installing this very minute! Good thinking.

I bought the lower-end Macbook (I got mine April 2008, and they had just released a newer one but I got the old one for cost reasons) and I am KIND of wishing I had splurged and bought the more recent version. Only because there have been 2 or 3 OS upgrades since then and I can't get any of them! Which really doesn't matter much EXCEPT... Firefox, Chrome, Java, Adobe Flash Player, etc, etc, no longer supports the old versions. So almost every. single. time. I open a page (like a youtube video), I get an "Adobe Flash Player is out of date!" warning. I can still run it, but the warning drove me nuts at first!

Brian's Macbook, OTOH, we got the following year.... maybe spring 2010? And his computer has supported all the upgrades. Mine is like a couple months too old! The only thing I have found I can no longer do (and maybe there is a way to fix it but I haven't figured it out) is Amazon Instant Video. Everything else gives me the option to run Flash Player anyway even though I "may be susceptible to attacks." :P

I LOVE, love, love it otherwise, though. I had a Toshiba laptop before this one that was completely dead at 3 years. This one is almost 4 years and still going very strong. :) Also, the service plan is spendy, but I got my money back out of it. I have gone through a battery and TWO power cords (we'll pretend that my laptop sits on a desk all day and no children mess with it and I have no IDEA how the power cord got a kink in it.) They replaced it, no questions. (I personally think the cords are a little too flimsy though!)

I didn't notice that about the bubbles! Now I see it! hahaha. Cool club.

  2. See- that's exactly what I wanted to know. I don't mind the cost if it really is an investment that will last me. I haven't even had my laptop for 3 years (wow, I thought it was longer than that!) and it's falling apart. I can probably scrape by with it for a bit longer- especially since I use my iPad so much- but after the baby is born and I start classes again in the fall, it just won't cut it.

  3. I'm so excited to know that the MacBooks last so long!! I've been feeling guilty the last few days about spending so much on one, but the laptop I got on Black Friday in 2011 has started it's downward spiral. I got this one as an early graduation present, and an "Omg I need a MacBook because I have the iPhone and iPad" thing. Lol Anywho's...I'm super glad you love your iPhone, and I'm glad to know that my new laptop purchase was a good investment!! :)
